A few years back, I suffered from an intractable migraine that lasted for a period of over eleven months. The pressure in my head felt like I had a truck parked on it. I had seen many doctors, including the nation's top specialists. I was on medicines, had IV infusions, but nothing was working. The pressure behind my eyes was so bad, I even went to an Eye Hospital Emergency room to make sure they weren't going to pop out.
Being a single parent, I still had to try to keep up with a job, housework, driving the kids to practice, and the rest of the load. I missed a month of work because of the migraine, then had to force myself to go back to pay the bills.
One weekend at the end of the summer, I was home alone and the pain was getting to be the worst that I had ever felt. It felt like a train was on my head. It was an excruciating, burning, intense pressure that was impossible to bear. I thought the next step had to be death, because how could it get any worse? I knew I couldn't drive myself to a doctor. If I called an ambulance, it would have been useless because I already saw the top specialists, and they were already doing all that they could. I had the IV medication, and narcotics made it worse; I would only be hospitalized and be suffering just the same. I could only lay there and struggle and pray.
I called my parents, and they came down from an hour away. My dad had migraines when he was middle aged, and I remember hearing the story of when he attended a Christian Cursillo Men's Weekend in his 40's. The men had prayed over him under a big tent to ask God to take away his migraines. After that weekend, he never had another one. That was almost 40 years ago.
When my parents arrived, my dad anointed my head with oil, while both of them prayed aloud, one at a time, asking God to take this pain from me. They prayed over me until I fell asleep. The pain wasn't as bad when I woke up, but it was still horrible and constant. I got through the next day, while my parents stayed with me.
The following day was a Sunday. I received a call from a friend who knew about my condition. She had been talking with her husband who is an Orthodontist who specializes in the treatment of headaches. She said that he agreed to evaluate me and might be able to help. I was able to see him soon after that. We discussed some recent work that had been done on my mouth in the past two years. After his evaluation, he ordered a mouth appliance that would change the way my teeth were biting down. Within three days of wearing the appliance, my migraine was gone. After almost a year of suffering, his training and expertise enabled him to stop my migraine that quickly.
Sometimes miracles aren't as dramatic as Lazarus being raised from the dead. In my case, the Lord sent me a very special person within 48 hours of intense prayer and anointing to help heal me. In my Dad's miracle, he was completely healed of his migraines through prayer.
I'm not sure that Dr. G. will ever really understand how he was used as God's Divine instrument in healing. I will always be thankful to him, his wife, and his staff for being a part of God's miracle in my life. |
